Tips for filling up in France

• Motorway (autoroute) stations are usually the dearest - leaving at a junction for a supermarket forecourt (Leclerc, Intermarché, Carrefour, Super U) is usually cheaper.
• Many supermarket pumps are unstaffed outside shop hours and only take chip-and-PIN cards - some UK cards are refused, so fill up while the shop is open if you can.
• Gazole is diesel. Never put it in a petrol car - and "Gazole" is not "gasoline".
