Tips for filling up in Italy

• Pumps are either "Self" or "Servito" (attended). Servito is noticeably dearer - these prices are the self-service ones.
• Motorway (autostrada) stations are usually the dearest; the next town off the motorway is often cheaper.
• Gasolio is diesel. Many stations switch to unattended "fai da te" pumps at night that take cards or cash.
• Italian prices are published once a day (as at 08:00 the day before), so they're a guide rather than live.
